Movie buffs should be interested in this film, the last one
for Rudolph Valentino. This classic silent movie is about a passionate romance between a
desert Sheik and a dancing girl. Valentino (playing Ahmed) falls madly in love with the
dancing girl Yasmin. The star, at the young age of 31, died just 8 days after collapsing
at the premiere of this film.
Bekki was commissioned by BBC Radio Derby's Ashley Franklin to compose a soundtrack for
the film, with the intention of playing it live at a screening. She was delighted by the
idea, as the film's subject instantly appealed to her incurably romantic nature.
Unfortunately, her musical equipment died just minutes before she was due to perform.
However, much of the music was worked on as individual pieces, and formed the foundations
for her second album, Shadow of the Wind. |
